This year I made a list of 21 tasks that I want to start AND finish in 2021. I don’t call them resolutions, because I personally believe that resolutions are about personal growth – but that’s just me; the dictionary definition is simply “a firm decision to do or not to do something.”
Task. Resolution. Potato. Puh-tah-toe.
Mister Jupiter recently suggested that being an adult IS to have a never-ending to do list, and I fear that he might be right. So here’s some of mine (I’m not going to bore you (today) with the minutiae of needing to make more chicken broth, bleach the shower grout, respond to invitations and such). Please enjoy how l-o-n-g it takes me to complete anything!

Write five new evergreens☒☒☒☒☒ — Completed 4/11
Changes since last update
Task #4 is 3/8 complete.
Task #8 was removed; I don’t need to stress about something that I don’t have!
Task #21 is complete – since last update I wrote Infusing Vinegars; the first batches, Five Favorites from Whole Foods Market, and Five Favorites in Fredericksburg, Texas.
I think my tasks are pretty self-explanatory, but for clarity I’ll break down tasks as this year goes on. Today I’m going to talk about numbers nine, ten, and eleven.
- #9 Return to Amazon top 1,000
- Situation: I used to be a Top 1,000 ranked reviewer on Amazon, but my rating dropped when I stopped writing reviews – pregnancy-induced carpal tunnel, then caring for a human full time took away my non-essential computer time. My ranking slid from a few hundred to many thousand (I haven’t kept full records, but my spam email box was empty!).
- Plan: I am just writing a shiny new review when I have the time, and hoping that people click the thumbs up. I can’t stick to a schedule, so I follow passions instead. It usually takes about three days to write each review. Day one – have feelings about ProductX, take photos of it in the afternoon if possible, draft review. Day two – edit review, submit text, edit photos. Day three – annotate photos while I wait for review to be approved. Then I add the annotated photos when my review goes live.
- #10 Hang more art
- Situation: I buy a lot of art. Mostly prints and tapestries, but we have posters and art objects too. Our home doesn’t have bare walls…but I have several beloved prints and tapestries that I want to see hanging!
- Plan: I just need to commit to getting a few things on the wall. The inability to hang art all willy-nilly is a vestigial remain of my perfectionism. I finally got over perfectionism in writing, but who knew that those tendencies would double elsewhere?! I can always move said art. I CAN MOVE THE ART WHENEVER I WANT TO. *repeats to self*
- #11 Practice digital drawing
- Situation: I sometimes like drawing, and I want to get better drawing on my tablet. Luckily I could have minored in art, so I know that all I need is to challenge myself all of the time. I have the skill, I just need practice. I have since purchased and applied a matte screen protector to my iPad and it’s already a favorite!
- Plan: I need to block out some doodle-time in my calendar. I tried to do it while listening to an audiobook last week, but I couldn’t multitask like that. I might be able to draw if I’m listening to music, because keeping up with Harry Dresden; the only openly practicing professional wizard in Chicago is too captivating for me to doodle to.
That’s all for today! I’ll be back when I make more progress. See you soon!
