  1. Thank you, I’m now convinced I need a family email account 🙂 Now just have to figure out what to name it….we have a 2.5 year old son who is about to start preschool and I’m thinking it’ll be really helpful to have a joint email account. My husband, son, and I don’t share the same last name, so I’m debating on whether to go with their last name or something with all three of us combined. Would love your thoughts…

    1. Blended families and more-than-one last names are so common!

Personally I would use both adult last names. Something like “SmithJonesFamily” or “TeamJonesSmith.”

Which last name goes first is up to you (I prefer alphabetical, but that’s just me). Overall I would keep it “resume-friendly;” and generally professional. You’ll be sharing it with people who don’t know you personally, so being neutral is a good thing.

Luckily, you can change it at any time. We needed to change our first family gmail address because of a regional assumption (which is silly in the first place, but people immediately thought the VERY worst when they heard it). So we changed it and haven’t had any problems since.
