This year I made a list of 21 tasks that I want to start AND finish in 2021. I don’t call them resolutions, because I personally believe that resolutions are about personal growth – but that’s just me; the dictionary definition is simply “a firm decision to do or not to do something.”
Task, resolution. Six of one, a half-dozen of the other.
Will I actually finish this list this year? Nobody knows and only time will tell!

Changes since last update
Task #4 is 5/8 complete.
Task #7 is 2/3 complete.
Task #12 was removed.
Tasks #14 and #15 were both amended to reflect similar activities that I actually do.
I think my tasks are pretty self-explanatory, but for clarity I’ll break down tasks as this year goes on. Today I’m going to talk about numbers twelve and thirteen.
- #12 Make space for Glowforge
- Situation: I want to buy a Glowforge (laser engraver), but don’t have space for it.
- Plan: I will instead make a space in our next home!
Since making this list I have learned two things regarding a Glowforge: 1) It is kind of loud and I would be happier if it wasn’t in the living room, and 2) I would enjoy it more if I was bursting with project ideas and could really devote time to it.
So I’ve decided to save us several thousand dollars and delay this purchase until we can devote more physical space for this machine (and in theory I will have more time to design for it too). It has been happily removed from my 21 in 2021 list.
- #13 Treadmill 10 minutes
- Situation: We have a treadmill, and my butt is larger than I prefer.
- Plan: I just need to carve out times to plug it in and use it. It used to be outside of the baby gate in the playroom, but we removed the baby gate when Kid Jupiter was granted more household freedoms. The treadmill was unplugged yet remains in the playroom (to demystify the machine), and has not been plugged back in for Kid Jupiter’s safety.
It’s a ProForm that comes with programming that I don’t want, so it needs to be plugged in with two adults – one to toggle the power switch, and another to press cancel as the treadmill powers on to disable the program so I can use the treadmill as a simple machine. I might be able to do this alone, and if I can, then I can use the treadmill during nap time, and not need to rely on Mister Jupiter being home either.
That’s all for today! I’ll be back when I make more progress. See you soon!
