It seems that intermittent fasting is everywhere – and I like that because I think it really works. Not as a calorie restriction plan, but as a means to reign in insulin resistance, reset appetite control, and to let your body clean itself up with autophagy.
I’m not here to explain how it works, I’m just here to share my story as I fast for my first twelve months. If you want to give it a go (which I think all adults can benefit from) grab a copy of the Obesity Code by Dr. Jason Fung, and a copy of Delay, Don’t Deny by Gin Stephens. Both are available on Audible and I re-listen to each audiobook often.

Thinking back to the summer of 2019, the words “intermittent fasting” were mainstream enough that a lot of people knew what it was. I’ve known about it a little bit, but not the mechanics, and I didn’t think about it until seeing one of Mister Jupiter’s coworkers who recently lost weight…via intermittent fasting (IF).
I thought about it for 30 seconds, ordered my meal, and forgot.
I quickly forgot about most weight loss plans or ideas that summer because I was nursing Baby Jupiter, and the ‘safe while nursing or pregnant’ folder is annoyingly slim. Luckily I wasn’t nursing forever, and wanted more information about intermittent fasting. For what it’s worth, I have never been motivated by numbers on a scale – it’s always my pants. I have several in small sizes with no stretch. And I missed them dearly.
I searched my podcast player for IF and found a lot of options! I subscribed to two dedicated podcasts, then I started listening. Learning from discussions and stories I decided to give it a go. Especially after listening to the Obesity Code – I was ready to not spike my insulin and let autophagy do its thing.
- Tiny disclosure – sudden fasting isn’t for everyone, you may want to speak to your doctor first before making big changes. Also, this is just my story; nothing more than sharing.
We are going to see these more later, so it’s time to meet my Goal Pants. My Goal Pants are my first pair of ALLSAINTS denim. Black with raw edge hem. 30″ waist, no stretch, button fly. They were a recent thrift score, and I can’t wait to wear them out.
I don’t know when I will fit into them, but right now I definitely don’t.
If you haven’t read or listened to the suggested books (Obesity Code by Dr. Jason Fung, and Delay, Don’t Deny by Gin Stephens), this talk about autophagy might be confusing. It is simply the body’s recycling program that requires stress to start, and fasting is enough bodily stress to trigger autophagy (pronounced AHH – tah – fah – jhe. It rhymes with biology).
